The Day Everything Went Off-Script
It all started with a cake. Or rather… a missing cake.
My son’s 6th birthday was just around the corner. He’s a massive Jurassic Park fan, and I had promised him the ultimate dinosaur cake. We had the guest list, the dino soundtrack and the venue. We had booked a VIP jungle-themed room at an indoor playground, perfect for a wild adventure. Think vines hanging from the ceiling, lush greenery all around, and jungle sounds and lighting setting the mood — it was going to be a dino lover’s dream. But as the clock ticked down to party time, a new challenge emerged — everything. 
The only thing missing? The cake.
Just one day before the party, the cake designer cancelled.
Cue: Panic mode activated.
Scramble for a Solution
I frantically searched for a backup. Thankfully, a local bakery came through with a basic cake — nothing custom, but ready for pickup the next afternoon. Total lifesavers!
But they couldn’t do the decorations I had dreamed of. Custom cake toppers, it turns out, require at least two weeks’ notice. (Noted for next time!)
That left me with a beautiful but plain cake… and a dinosaur-loving kid expecting a prehistoric masterpiece.
Mom-on-a-Mission Mode
With less than 24 hours to party time, I hit the internet hard.
I searched everywhere for last-minute cake toppers or anything that could help me rescue this party.
I found a few physical toppers, but shipping would take days. That wasn’t going to work. So I had one of those bold mom moments and said:
“Let’s just make it ourselves.”
From Idea to Topper
I got to work with the help of my now-team. Together, we designed three different Jurassic Park cake toppers — each with a different layout, font, and dino vibe. After a mini family vote (and maybe a little design debate), we picked the perfect one for the cake.
I sent it to a local print shop and waited, hoping it would turn out as amazing as we imagined.
And guess what?
It did. It turned out AMAZING.
Picking up the prints felt like Christmas morning. The quality? So good. I cut it out, placed it carefully on the cake — and the look on my son’s face?
Absolutely. Priceless.
The Lightbulb Moment
That’s when it hit me:
